Short stories from childhood to university years. I’m not seeking publication for these stories, so you can read them here. Some of them offer both an English and a Finnish version.
Though I’ve mostly written in Finnish, especially when I was younger, I started to write short stories in English before my high school finals, since that was the most pleasant way for me to try to improve my language skills. On top of that, I also practised by translating a bunch of old stories. Since then, I have written in English now and then. These stories are obviously not indicative of my current writing skills but some of them are still fun for me to read, and I have a soft spot for other people’s old writings, so I want to share mine as well.
THE STORIES WILL BE POSTED HERE IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER. If there’s no link it’s probably because I haven’t typed the story on my computer yet. (Yeah, I liked to write by hand or a typewriter when I was younger.) I will probably find more stories I want to post than the ones listed here, as I go through my old stuff.
Villa Zwerg (2015)
A surrealistic exploration of how jealously, envy and attraction play together. Characters include Viola from my old comic Four Colours, but it isn’t connected to the comic in any other way. Very, very loosely based on Snow White and Rose Red. Basically no plot.
Nene (2015)
A 400-year-old giant, Nene, has been living a satisfying life without having to reveal her age or nature to humans. One day she meets an odd researcher in her garden. Unnecessarily long intro.
The Monster Association (2015)
A diverse group of friends discusses their lives at a pub. Just dialogue. I wrote this after witnessing a lot of the discourse in queer spaces, but this isn’t about any real events, people or organizations, and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
The Story of Three Sisters (2011)
Three sisters and three ways of lookig at life. I was so proud of this fable when I came up with it in a creative writing class in high school.
Lurking (2010)
A short writing excercise from school with a prompt “There are three blood stains on the floor…”
The Princess and the Wind (2010)
A very short look at hope.
Utopia (2010)
Personifications of imaginary countries try to sort out their relationships in some idealized metaphysical plane. But, you can also just think of it as your regular idiots who don’t know how to love themselves, much less another person. It’s weird either way. Slightly inspired by Axis Powers Hetalia.
A Spoonful of Hope (2009)
A school exercise gotten out of hand. (60+ pages) The teacher gave us several prompts, and we had to write ten sentences for each, before she gave us a new one, so, most of the plot twists came from the prompts but when they ran out I wasn’t finished. The later half of the story is just me trying to finish it in a satisfying way. The prompts are bolded.
Dome of Illusion (2008)
A school excersice that had to include ten common fantasy tropes/elements. Obviously I wrote 50+ pages, created a detailed world, and later wrote more stories about the same world. The tropes I chose are bolded.
Snow Angel (2006)
A girl meets her dead friend in a dream. Or is it a dream? I won my school’s writing contest with this in seventh grade. It’s sort of cute I guess.
